The South Valley Running Club (SVRC) will hold a “No T-shirts, No Medals, No Fuss” Turkey Trot this coming Saturday along the Coyote Creek Trail in Morgan Hill.

Although SVRC members will be racing for 2008 Grand Prix Points, everyone is welcome to either attend or compete in this race.  Technically, there is no entry fee, but the organized suggest runners bring two non-perishable food items which will be donated to Community Solutions.

Although I’m not a runner I think the idea of a “no fuss” turkey trot to benefit a local charity is a great idea and I am a fan of wandering along the Coyote Creek Trail.  Registration starts at 7:15am with the race beginning at 8:00.  Visit their website for more information or hook up with them at the Vineyard Starbucks at 7am tomorrow morning for their weekly run.

Yesterday, the Morgan hill Times ran a feature article on water safety. While always an excellent reminder, it seemed pretty slim on details, in my opinion. If you’re planning on visiting any body of water this summer may I recommend you look into some Boating Education Online?

A startlingly high number of people are injured or killed each year due to boating accidents.  Unfortunately, the vast majority of these accidents were entirely preventable, had the people on board not been drinking.  With that in mind, let me share this great little PSA I recently came across-

The heat is on, on the street

Yeah, so Glenn Freye was talking about a different kind of heat, but that’s still how I feel.  92 degrees yesterday, 92 today and peaking at 95 degrees tomorrow.  It is sizzilin’ here in Morgan Hill and the only place to truly cool down is the Centennial Recreation Center which, of course, is packed with munchkins whose parents brought them there to cool down.  ::sigh::  Maybe I shoulda got my gym membership at 24 hour fitnes after all.

The Morgan Hill Aquatics Center is scheduled to open in eight days, so hopefully that will take some of the pressure of the CRC, but I really wish they’d just kick those doors open a little bit early.
