Now you can access those great Armani deals on designer jeans (and other great Armani clothing) from the comfort of your own home.

For example, check out my favorites, the spotted bleach jeans pictured above. They’re only $125 through Armani Exchange and that includes postage with their Free Shipping on orders over $100. They are even offering quite a bit of their Armani Denim for under $100 per pair. Such as the Light Urban Destruction and New Zenith Boot Cut for only $98 per pair. These jeans are not only hip and stylish, but you’re know they’re of the highest quality as well or they wouldn’t be sporting that fashionable Armani label.

As if those great prices and free shipping weren’t enough, if you purchase a full price pair of denim from Armani Exchange between 7/7/09 – 7/19/09 (either online or in a brick and mortar store) you will receive an Armani Exchange gift card worth $20 off you next purchase of $100 or more (valid 7/30/09 through 8/15/09).

There’s only one thing better than a sale on Armani Exchange Denim, and that is, of course, free jeans! Well, we’ve got you covered here as well. Armani Exchange is giving away a pair of jeans every day in July and you can get your chance to win by texting the keyword “DENIM2″ to ARMANI (276264). Just click text A|X for full details on this summer denim contest.

When I was a kid we had a ping pong table in our back yard, but I was always jealous of my friends who had pool tables in their homes. Now, thanks to Sears just about everyone can afford to have both. That’s because they’ve dropped the price on their $400 Fullerton seven foot pool table (with conversion top to make it a ping pong table) all the way back to $279.99!

But that’s not going to be my first stop. After I lost Zaira’s camera at Discovery Kingdom a few weeks back I had to give her mine to replace it (leaving me without a camera). Luckily, Sears has me covered there as well with an amazingly low price of $149.99 before $20 instant savings on a Canon Powershot 8.0-megapixel digital camera with a 4X optical zoom.

So what are you waiting for? Stop reading my blog (when did you ever think you’d hear me say that?) and high tail it to Sears!

I had been considering building a terrarium or vivarium here in The Caverns, but the property management company has nixed the idea of little critters possibly roaming free around the apartment. So now I’m thinking about the possibility of cultivating saltwater fish. I’m aware that their supposed to be much more difficult to maintain than freshwater fish, but I’m looking for something “out of the ordinary” or at least “special” in some way. With the landlord’s strictures they may be my only choice.

The big problem? There really isn’t anywhere in Morgan Hill to buy saltwater fish

Luckily, I recently discovered Reef Hot Spot. They’ve been in the saltwater aquarium business online for more than three years now and offer a 14 day “live guarantee” to ensure that not only will your precious pets arrive safe and sound, but also that they’ll acclimate to your tank and not bring any sickness or disease along with them. They are also a great source for live coral with new, rare corals arriving daily and a selection of discount coral for the beginner (like myself) or those on a budget (also like myself).

Reef Hot Spot is more than just an internet storefront, though. They’ve also got literally hundreds of useful and educational articles on all aspects of salt water fish, coral and tank maintenance. Starting a salt water aquarium is not something that should be done withuot plenty of research. But now that I have a quality source for both information and supplies I’m pretty confident I’m heading down the right path.

Unfortunately, the game I enjoyed playing (and buying) there is no longer being produced so I have few excuses to visit Glenn at his new location. But I still wish him the best and know that things must be getting mighty tight this holiday season.

So, if you’re an anime or mange fan, be sure to visit Glenn at Anime 101 (313 Vineyard Town Center) and tell him that Aahz says “hi”. Need more motivation to visit?

Well, are you a Yu-Gi-Oh fan? Because Anime 101 hosts regular monthly tournaments-

The 1st tournament for December will be held on the 6th @ 2pm.

Tournaments may have prizes sponsored by our local Gamestop in the Cochrane Plaza. 1st place will get a $15 gift card, second will be $10, and 3rd & 4th will get one for $5 ea. Giftcards are good for items found at Gamestop and are subject to Gamestop’s rules governing such things. Prizes are contingent on the number of people who enter, so bring a friend!

Please Note: The league kit for December *has* been ordered, but it may not arrive in time for the 1st December tournament. The card of the month is yellow gadget.

Apparently, Pokemon is still pretty popular as well. In fact, it’s so popular that Anime 101 will be hosting their first Pokemon tournament-

The first pokemon tournament in the new store will be held on Dec 13th @ 2pm. Players are advised to come early, since seats will be sold on a 1st come, 1st served basis. Players must be 7yrs or older and be capable of being on their own. The entry fee is $5.

Don’t forget to tell ‘em Aahz sent ya!

I thought it might be time to take a ‘real person’ look at exactly why these businesses are going under. The “big three” closures of late are Ross, Circuit City and Mervyn’s. I don’t think I’ve ever made a purchase at Ross, so can’t directly address that one, but have been a regular Mervyn’s shopper and spend quite a chunk of change on electronics as well.

Circuit City-

I used to be a huge Circuit City fan, but then they laid off all of their knowledgeable salespeople a couple years back to replace them with lower paid clerks who don’t know what the heck they’re talking to about. That was the death of the superior service that made their higher prices more palatable.

I stopped by our seven-month old Circuit City here in Morgan Hill the day after the announced closure to see if there were any bones worth picking. Although the store would be receiving no more stock the discounts were minimal (10% to 30%) and still left their prices significantly higher than even such local competition as Fry’s. When I needed a new DSL modem last week I went by again and the highest visible discount was still 40%. Additionally, they only had a single DSL modem which was still overpriced by at least 20%. A quick trip to San Jose and I had more than a dozen modems to choose from, half of which cost less. So why should I shopt at Circuit City again?

Others apparently feel the same way as even last week you couldn’t tell the store was closing (except for the roughly 8.5 million signs) based on stock levels. Since they haven’t been restocked all month that means that no one’s buying even at these supposed “closeout” prices.

Mervyn’s -

Meanwhile Mervyn’s at least seems to be actually going out of business. With discounts as high as 70% and empty shelves sprouting up like Christmas Trees even if it wasn’t for the sign forest you’d know this store was not much longer for this world. Which doesn’t address why they’re going out of business. Well, here’s a real world example for you…

Z needed some new bras last week so we decided to take advantage of the (then) 40% savings at Mervyns. She found a couple of their least expensive she liked but their original price was $30 making the “discount/closeout” price $18 each. Not satisfied with these so-called savings we drove to the other side of 101 and visited Target where the original price on their most expensive bras was only about $25. We picked up five bras (including a couple of “closeouts”) for $30 total with tax! Still wondering why they are closing? I’m not.

Tomorrow, I will be preparing my first ever Thanksgiving dinner. It’s going to be small, (just Zaira and myself) but I’m still pretty darn nervous. Pretty much every holiday dinner I’ve ever attended has required someone to run to the store for something during its preparation, so in getting ready for this event I’ve made sure to check the hours at my local Safeway in Tennant Station. Just in case y’all might have the same concern I figured I’d share them with you here:

Thanksgiving Day – Open until 6pm

Black Friday – Open at 6am

So, there you go. Get there early if you’re going!

BTW, both Zaira and I will be live blogging our Thanksgiving, so if you’re interested in peeking in at a rookie Thanksgiving stop by Butterfly Diaries or Philaahzophy.

Yes, you read that right. We’re looking into Contemporary Style Ceiling Fans that our landlord might permit us to install in order to stay warm in the winter. You see, we live in low-cost housing that was built as low cost housing. In other words, they trimmed costs wherever possible during the building process as well. Which means that, for instance, there’s no insulation between floors. So when we turn on the central heat all of the warm air comes out of the vents (which are located at the top of the walls) and tends to float right through the ceiling into the upstairs, failing to heat the downstairs of the house. Of course, this also means that the upstairs gets stiflingly hot by the time the downstairs is merely comfortable.

With a Hugger Style Ceiling Fan we could run it on low in the winter and thus pull the warm air down from the ceiling (hopefully before it escapes upstairs) and into the room itself. After all, people don’t live on the ceiling. They tend to hang out in the bottom five feet or so of a room. So that’s where the heat needs to go.

We actually found a great selection of Decorative Style Ceiling Fans at CeilingFanWarehouse.com to choose from and have narrowed our choices down to a few that are both affordable and don’t seem like they’ll appear out of place in our smallish apartment. At this point, we’re just waiting for permission from the landlord. Wish us luck!

I’m so happy to report that they were all wrong. As I wrote in that post, The Watchery has been around for more than six years now, they offer a full two year warranty on any watch they sell, and they aren’t going anywhere.

So, when a friend asked me to find a gerard genta watch he could afford to purchase for his wife’s Christmas present, The Watchery was my first stop. After perusing their broad selection I checked elsewhere on the web and called several local stores. However, none of these other businesses were able to come even close to the service and prices available through The Watchery. Obviously, that’s where he ended up making his purchase.

But the story doesn’t end there. While shopping for my friend’s spouse I came across the watch pictured above. It’s a Gerald Genta Arena Bi-retro Mens’ Automatic Stainless Steel Watch with a Mother-of-Pearl Dial. All of which sounds pretty nice, but it’s the innovative face that really caught my attention. Eye-catching, unique, and definitely my style. As y’all know I’m into the innovative as well as the functional and this watch is both. besides I can’t wait to see the look on folx faces when they ask me the time and Idisplay this watch

If you ever shop at Safeway it would have been hard to miss that they’ve changed the way that Safeway Club members earn gas discounts. After all, they issued all of their employees new red t-shirts advertising the program, spent weeks handing out brochures about the new program both in the stores and at the gas station here in Morgan Hill, and posted huge banners and flags at all of their locations as well. However, awareness does not always equal understanding, so I figured I’d share with y’all just how great this new program is.

Old Safeway Club Card Gas Program

Up until September 30, 2008 Safeway offered a $0.03 per gallon discount to all holders of their loyalty card. Additionally, when shoppers purchased $50 or more of “qualifying products” in a single transaction they would receive an additional $0.07 per gallon discount bringing their total discount to $0.10/gallon. “Qualifying products” included everything except liquid dairy products (ie. milk), CRV (California Redemption Value aka recycling fee), tobacco, alcohol, gift cards, postage stamps, gasoline, lottery tickets, commuter passes, money orders, event tickets, and most prescription medications. The bulk of these exemptions (and I may have missed a few as I’m working from memory here) are actually a matter of state law and not Safeway’s choice.

When a shopper had earned one or more discounts and visited the Safeway gas station they would receive the $0.10/gallon discount instead of the $0.03/gallon discount. Regardless of how many $0.10 discounts earned, the maximum discount that could be applied to a single purchase was $0.10 per gallon.

New Safeway Club Card Gas Program

As of October 1, 2008 Safeway still offers a $0.03 per gallon discount to all holders of their loyalty card. Additionally, every time a shopper spends $100 on “qualifying products” they will receive a single $0.10 per gallon discount. This discount supercedes the standard $0.03/gallon discount. The amount spent is recorded with each, individual purchase and stored. Thus, although the amount of spending required to earn the discount has been doubled the removal of the single transaction requirement makes the goal much more easy to reach.

Even better, when the shopper visits the Safeway gas station they will have the choice to use their current Power Pump Rewards discount or to continue to let it grow. There is now no limit on the number of $0.10 discounts that can be applied to a single transaction. Well, other than the actual price of a gallon of gas.

What This Means For You

In the past if you didn’t regularly spend more than $50 in a single transaction you might be tempted to buy a few extra things (and spend extra money) just to earn the higher gas discount. Of course, as nice as $0.10 per gallon sounds it doesn’t really add up to much – $2.00 on a 20 gallon fill up. But with the new program allowing spending to “roll over” from one transaction to another there’s no need to buy additional items. Additionally, since the savings rewards are also cumulative you can earn a much greater disount on your gas as well!

While visiting the Tennant Station Safeway this afternoon to cash in my free sandwich coupon I came across an interesting find. Currently piled up in front of Safeway are numerous new electronic signs advertising a self service pet wash as well as a brand new full-size Safeway sign.

It was just last week that this Safeway removed two cash registers and replaced them with self-service registers. Personally, I’m not a fan of self-service registers, but I know that many people are fans and I haven’t seen many problems with them thus far.

The real questions is where is this dog wash area going to go? I suppose they could remove the flower display area in the front of the store (near the West entrance), but it doesn’t seem there’d be much room there. And do you really want people washing their dogs so close to your fruit and vegetables? I don’t think that I do.
