My back don't need a new bed because every time I buy a bed even if I spend more money I try to buy the best I can so I can have a good sleep. And when I go camping or hiking for me is very important to have a very good sleep.

Aren't futons really uncomfortable?

I think the reason bed shops go out of business so easily is the saturation of the market and the longevity of the product. I bought my bed, good quality and love it, in 1998 and the mattress of course... and it is still going strong... maybe I will change mattress 5 years down the track... but that is a pretty long time of not needing anything from a bed shop right? I am sure I am not alone.. I just don't think it would a be a great business - unless you specialised in kids furniture etc as they keep growing out of it!!

Anyway, hope you found a solution!

Yeah at times futon mattresses can become very uncomfortable or you can grow out of them quickly. I only have a futon mattress in the living room that folds down. In the bedroom we have a queen sized blow up air mattress that uses a temperpedic cushion. Its very comfortable and reliable. We've had it for two years now.

you should check your local wal mart, when we bought ours a couple years back I believe they were about $99.

Hope this helps! ;-)
