Live Oak High School Arson Spree? “SPREE”? Seriously!?!

You see that picture on the left? That’s what a school arson looks like. Is that what you pictured when you saw the Morgan Hill Times headline: “Four arrested for arson at school“? Yeah, me too.

However, according to the actual article-

The most serious of the incidents in the alleged arson spree took place Nov. 19, when a garbage can outside the school cafeteria was set on fire. That fire was quickly extinguished by a Live Oak teacher before emergency personnel arrived, but still caused about $500 in damage to the outside of the building.

For those of you playing along at home, that tends to look more like the picture on the right.  Not very scary is it?  And that was the “most serious”!  Two of the remaining three “arson-related events at the campus since Sept. 10″ apparently included a firecracker being set off (and being reported as a bomb) and a “plastic water bottle containing gasoline” being found in an outside garbage can.

Yet, somehow this has now become an “arson spree” that somehow required the police department, SCCFD arson investigator Dennis Johnson, and school officials working together to solve.  Then again, maybe all it would have taken was watching “the school’s campus surveillance system [which] captured video of the crime” and the help of “concerned students with knowledge of the incidents” who identified the suspects.

This reminds me of some of the pranks our senior class pulled during our last year in high school, a few people actually got caught and were expelled which was really a shame because they didn’t make it to graduation and some of them were actually good students. High school reunions are coming up, I wonder if any of them got any invites.
