Train Show At San Martin Country Park
Well, Zaira and I made it over to the Train Show at the San Martin Country Park on Saturday, though we were a bit disappointed in the event. We were hoping to see some really cool layouts, learn more about the model train hobby, and possibly find some great deals on carnival-related items designed for toy train sets.
There were only three layouts present, the most complex of which is pictured at left. There were about a half dozen dealers set up in the barn, but most seemed much more interested in catching up with old friends than possibly educating newcomers such as ourselves. And there were no carnival-related items present.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not trying to call out the local model train community. I’ve been to many a gathering over the years that was dedicated to one small hobby or another. Their primary goal is meeting up with like-minded fellows and old friends. My guess is that this event accomplished that. There just wasn’t anything there for us.
We’re both still glad we attended – Zaira for the experience, me for the ability to support other people’s obscure hobbies with my admission and raffle money. BTW, it turns out that All Aboard Junction is NOT closing after all!
