2008 Taste Of Morgan Hill Is Delicious!

Z and I just returned from the first day of the 19th Annual Taste of Morgan Hill street fair in downtown Morgan Hill, and we both agree: it was delicious!  Okay, enough of the cheesy puns… oops, last one, I promise ;)

We started out (as we do all downtown Morgan Hill events) with a morning mean at Just Breakfast which has new menus yet again.   No big changes, except that lunch items have returned to share the same menu as breakfast items.  Service was superb as always.

Then we waded in to the crowds of families and canines to see what the festival had to offer. First up, right at Monterey & Dunne, was the Classic Car Show. Neither of us are really car buffs, but we can still both appreciate the veauty of these old cars and I, for one, respect the love and devotion it takes to not only keep one of ‘em running, but to make it “show quality”.  There was a wide selection of vehicles, from the oldest hot rods to more modern sports cars and plenty of 1950s Chevy’s and Cadillacs.  Plenty of perfect road trips cars and at least three classic Corvette’s which have always been my favorite car.

I’d love to own almost any car on display this weekend, but with my budget I’d be lucky to have one like pictured at right. Not that I’d be complaining!

You might be wondering about the “wading in to the canines” comment up above.  Well, at least 10% of the crowd was actually four legged – and this was well before the beer sales kicked in to high gear ;)

We were surprised that Splash, the mascot for the Morgan Hill Aquatics Center was not around today, but Z did get a chance to meet the Gavilan College mascot, Bucky the Ram!

In addition to Bucky (and a plethora of puppies) Morgan Hill’s Future Farmers of America (FFA) had a small petting zoo, and there were several animal related booths (Morgan Hill Dog Owner’s Association, etc) packed amongst the combination of craft, business, food and political booths.

Our favorite area though was the inflatable carnival provided by Fun & Game Rentals from Manteca. The entire carnival wasn’t inflatable, of course, but it sure did seem like it at times. I have never seen so many bounce house type things in one place in my entire life!  It was shoeless munchkin heaven!

They also had a half-dozen traditional carnival kiddie rides:  Jumpin’ Star “drop tower”, swing ride, a miniature teacups, and a Baja Buggy ride unlike anything I’ve ever seen before.  in fact, I have no idea how to explain it, so you’ll have to check out the video-

Weird huh?

The crowd was geting pretty thick by noon, so I’d say the event will probably be considered successful. Especially considering it didn’t get much press before hand. Although I did manage to catch a radio ad on KFOX while waiting to pick Z up from school yesterday.  The crowds seemed happy, the live entertainment was rockin, and even the vendors seemed to be enjoying themselves despite the growing heat.
