Midnight Excitement at Jasmine Square

At five minutes after midnight this morning I was suddenly deafened by the fire alarm in my room going off. Heading for the stairs, roommate/client #1 exited his room and I told him to follow me outside. Reaching the downstairs I found roommate/client #2 (the one I actually get paid to watch overnight) sitting and watching the Tonight Show. I shuffled him outside as well.
Neither smoke nor fire was apparent in our apartment, but the alarm could clearly be heard coming from every apartment in our building and the FIRE warning light on the side of the building was flashing as others emptied from their apartments in robes and slippers.
A quick walk around the entire building showed confirmed the lack of fire and smoke, but there was one fire sprinkler spraying water onto an outdoor balcony. The tenants there were outside as well and confirmed that there was no fire in their apartment. Everyone in the building was outside and no one was hurt. Whew!
The Morgan Hill Fire Department arrived about 10 minutes later, confirming that everyone was okay and shutting off both the water and the alarm (at last). Apparently the sprinkler just malfunctioned. If that’s really the case than I sincerely hope the tenants have renter’s insurance because otherwise they are truly hosed (pun intended).
