This Is What I Was Afraid Of

When I decided to move to Morgan Hill from San Jose two years ago I wasn’t worried about the loss of “nightlife” or “opportunities” as I rarely took advantage of these things anyway.  Besides, San Jose is simply not that far from Morgan ihll.  No, my major fear was the weather.

Having grown up in San Jose I learned two things about South County: 1) it’s hot, 2) there’s dangerous gangs in Gilroy.  Well, I learned long ago that the second concern was really just the bigotry of my parents, but the first concern is absolutely well-founded.  As I type this it’s 106 degrees outside.  I live in low-cost housing without any type of air-conditioning.  In fact, window mounted air conditioners are verboten under our lease.   Thus, when it gets hot outside, it gets hotter inside.  Miserably hot.  Oppressively hot.  What’s even worse… we aren’t even having a record breaking heat day!  That’s right, thisisn’t even a heat wave.  It’s just summer in Morgan Hill.

San jose isn’t much cooler at 101, but that’s an important five degrees of difference!  Have I mentioned I hate the heat?  When it gets cold you can always pull on more clothes, cuddle under blankets, or snuggle up with a loved one.  When it’s hot you can only get so naked.  At that point there’s nothing left to do except find water or get the hell out.  Unfortunately, neither of these were an option for me today, so I’m stuck here in the hot.  Blah.

Home Depot – and sometimes WallyMart have the “in room” air conditioners that are allowed under any lease. Nothing shows at the window – save for a vent hose and a baffle.

I ended up buying a stand-alone “swamp cooler” type of thing via Amazon for about $85.

It doesn’t make it COOL, but it keeps it from being boiling.

I would suggest for an Portable Air Conditioning unit its cool and productive it gives you the same amount of cooling you require and its also easy to move from one room to the another.

Unfortunately, a portable air conditioning unit is WAY beyond our budget.
