Rite Aid – With A Touch Of Emotional Blackmail

RiteAid Morgan Hill Today was apparently the day for me to return things. First was Kohl’s in Gilroy and then to Rite Aid (Monterey & Tennant) right here in Morgan Hill.

Since I was returning nicotine patches (flag one) that I had purchased (in part) with a gift certificate (flag two) I expected to have to deal with a supervisor or manager. In order to ease the situation I held onto the product until I needed a similar dollar value of goods.

Today was the day. I walked down, found my replacement products and approached the register. As expected she called for an “approval”, although she didn’t say anything to me in the process, which I found rather rude. Once the supervisor arrived he quickly approved the exchange (actually he approved a cash refund despite the fact that I’d originally paid by credit card). I joked about the length of the receipt that was generated by the refund and that’s when the emotional blackmail began…

Rite Aid Morgan Hill“That’s because we need you to call this 800 number,” the clerk began.

“Oh, like one of those survey things?” I questioned.

Yeah, we get in trouble if you don’t don’t it, he (points to supervisor/manager returning to office) gets in trouble and then it spreads around, so please just take a few minutes to call the 800 number.

Setting aside for the moment that this is a blatant mistruth, how is it anything but emotional blackmail? She never asked me to call and complete the survey. She didn’t mention the $10,000 I would have an opportunity to win should I chose to take the survey. No, she said they needed me to call the number. Well, darlin, I guess y’all are going to be in trouble then, because although I may have done it before, I certainly won’t be doing it now.
