Missing Out On More Genre Films

Remember my rant about how we weren’t getting enough small, genre films here in Morgan Hill? Well, this time it’s even worse.
Unknown One of the bestselling Manga’s of all time, DeathNote has been made into a live action feature length film and it’s playing for two days only (Tuesday and Wednesday May 20 and 21) in theaters nationwide. But not here in Morgan Hill. Why not? I have no idea, but I’ve already fired off another letter to the Cinelux management to try and find out. Why is this even more tragic than the last time our local theater ignored a great opportunity? Well, how many towns of our size can boast a store dedictaed entirely to manga and anime? I’d guess not many, but Glenn Schmall has been serving up just that at Anime 101 & Manga Too for more than three years now. Clearly, we have an audience for such a performance. All is not lost, however, as not one, but three San Jose area theaters will be screening this film next week. Check the Fathom website for locations.

Ya know, the stars of Death Note have supernatural powers. If I could have a supernatural power I’d want it to be some form of mental manipulation. Perhaps then I could force the local theater managers to start bringing these types of films to us when the opportunities arise.
