More Fungus Among Us

Mushrooms are coming to Morgan hill in a big way and I’m not talking about Mushroom Mardi Gras. No, I’m talking about the sprinkling of more than two dozen 30″ tall art mushrooms. From the Morgan Hill Times-

The Morgan Hill Downtown Association, along with Art Bay Area, aim to attract people to Morgan Hill’s downtown with a temporary public art display involving about 25 fiberglass mushrooms, to be decorated by local or area artists.
On Friday, the two groups unveiled the first mushroom to the public during a press conference held by Downtown Association Executive Director Jorge Briones at Lojart Gallery in downtown Morgan Hill. Propped on top of a concrete pedestal inside the Main Avenue art studio, the stout white mushroom stood 30 inches tall and 30 inches wide.
I think this is a great idea! I was living in downtown San Jose when they did the Shark Art there several years back and they were literally the talk of the town. I also had the chance to see Providence, Rhode Island’s Mr. Potato Heads which were just as whimsical as the mushrooms promise to be. Cleveleand did art guitars a few years back and I liked them so much that I bought a small replica of one while at the Hard Rock Park last week. Plus with the added bonus of the mushrooms being less than 3 feet tall the area kids will get a chance to play around on them! Double bonus.
