The New Cheesy Bacon BK WRAPPER(TM)
Burger King has always had my favorite fast food breakfast meals. Their tater tot-esque hash browns are one of God’s favorite foods and the sausage croissanwiches are to die for. So, when I started seeing the ads for their new Cheesy Bacon BK Wrapper, I was pretty excited.
From the official press release-
The new Cheesy Bacon BK WRAPPER(TM) features eggs, crispy bacon, golden hash browns, American cheese and a Smokey cheese sauce served in a soft flour tortilla.
“This latest addition to the BK(TM) Breakfast Value Menu combines all of the things we love about breakfast time - bacon, hash browns, eggs and cheese,” said John Schaufelberger, senior vice president, global product marketing and innovation, Burger King Corp. “Our guests will never skip breakfast again after they try it.”
The Cheesy Bacon BK WRAPPER(TM) will be available for a limited time only for a suggested retail price of $1.39. The new breakfast item will also be available in a Breakfast Value Meal featuring two Cheesy Bacon BK WRAPPERS(TM) accompanied by small hash browns and a small coffee, for a suggested retail price of $3.99. Price and participation may vary.
I just returned from the Burger King at the corner of Monterey and Tenant/Edmundson where I chowed down on one these tiny pieces of breakfast heaven (at least that’s what they look like in the television commercials). Unfortunately, the reality was rather disappointing (as it often is).
First, the good news. Despite the$3.99 value meal price in the press release above, my total cost (including tax) was only $3.24 as the clerk graciously allowed me to purchase only a single wrap with my meal. Not a bad price point these days. But it’s no surprise that the ’standard’ meal includes two wraps as these things are tiny. I swear the small hash browns was more filling than the wrap itself. They also tasted much better!
The primary taste of the wrap is actually more of a texture than a taste - plastic. Yep, it’s got the same plasticy feel as so much fast food cheese has these days. I don’t know what this stuff is manufactured from, but whenever I consume it I feel like I’m eating something entirely factory made. It just doesn’t taste (or feel) like food.
Despite breaking my diet I’m glad I gave the new Cheesy Bacon BK Wrapper a try. Not because it was a good meal, though. The staff at this Burger King is always friendly and polite (most actually seem to enjoy doing their job), I love the way the morning sun streams into the booths while I eat, and now there’s no longer any temptation to break my diet in the future. Not only is the BK breakfast wrap not worth the extra calories, fat and grease in my diet, but it’s not even worth its $1.39 price tag.
