USPS Post Office in Morgan Hill
Morgan Hill is home to 33556 people, 17 mail boxes and 1 post office (with 8 of those mailboxes being on the post office property). In other words, pretty much everyone has to go to the post office at some point. And it shows.
When I was living in San Jose I was a full time eBay seller and visited St. James Post Office in downtown on a daily basis (sometimes twice daily). I also regularly found myself in the Oakridge, Eastridge, Willow Glen and Meridian/Main post offices. For the last couple of weeks I’ve been selling on eBay once again and have thus been visiting the Morgan Hill Post Office at least once a day as well. The Morgan Hill Post office is, without a doubt, the worst post office I have ever had the displeasure of visiting. It’s so bad that I occasionally spend the time and gas to drive down to the far superior Gilroy Post Office as it can save me both time and aggravation.

What, exactly is the problem? Complete lack of efficiency. I needed to buy a coil of Forever stamps today as their price will be going up next month. When I arrived in the post office lobby there were two clerks and three people in line ahead of me. It took 22 minutes for me to be called to the counter and a grand total of 75 seconds to purchase my stamps. Absolutely ridiculous.
In all of the San jose post offices I patronized customers were required to complete their paperwork before approaching the counter. If their paperwork was not complete they would be sent off to complete it and the clerk would help the next person in line. Not so here in Morgan Hill. Instead the clerk will chat idly while the customer occupies their counter and others wait in line. I’ve also witnessed 5 minute plus personal conversations occurring between clerks and customers.
I suppose this is one of the “small town” issues - everyone knows everyone. But frankly the post office is a place of business. It’s horrible customer service to make several customers wait while you chat about your last customer’s dog and children.
As if the lobby isn’t crowded and slow enough already, they have just announced that the automated stamp vending machine in the lobby will be removed soon. This means even more people standing in line, more people for the clerks to chat with, and even longer waits.

Boy do I know waiting in line at Postoffice, I keep walking out and coming back the next day, hoping to come back when there is no line, well it’s been 2 weeks, today I will stick it out. Well written story thanks for the entertainment.
